Oversize and overweight bags
Fees and seasonal limitations vary by destination. Contact Reservations for help and to make sure your oversize bags will fit on the plane.
When a single item exceeds standard dimensions for both weight and size, the higher fee between oversize and overweight applies, in addition to the checked bag fee.

Checked bags over 115 in / 292 cm in total dimensions (length + width + height) are not accepted.

*Seasonal and / or year-round checked bag and box limitations apply to some cities in Mexico, Caribbean, Central and South America. For travel to / from Mexico boxes cannot exceed 80 in / 203 cm in total dimensions (length + width + height). If a box is placed inside a bag, box limitations still apply.
^For travel from Madrid, Spain (MAD) the maximum length of any side of a checked item cannot exceed 43 in / 110 cm. Items with maximum total outside dimensions up to 115 in / 292 cm (length + width + height) are accepted.
Overweight bags
We don't accept checked bags over 100 lbs / 45 kgs on American Airlines operated flights.
Business and Domestic First confirmed customers can check 2 bags up to 70 lbs / 32 kgs at no extra cost.
Flagship® First and Flagship® Business Plus confirmed customers and AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum Pro® and oneworld® Emerald members can check 3 bags up to 70 lbs / 32 kgs at no extra cost.*
